Evo80 - Embrace the Evolution a 80% Custom Mechanical Keyboard

Amazing keyboard!

Was initially looking for a keyboard around 120-150€, however then I saw the Evo80 came out and a lot of people were praising it. Safe to say I don't regret my purchase and spending a little bit extra was worth it. The keyboard feels and sounds amazing and the build quality is something else!

For the price ... unbelievable

You don't have to mod this keyboard at all. No rattling, no scratching, nothing. Extremely nice sound signature, super heavy, *perfect* build quality, very nice typing feel and nice features. There are only three minor drawbacks in my book:
(1) Even though advertised, there is no VIA support (yet?)
(2) No knob
(3) TKL is vastly preferred by me, but in the end, whatever

Edit:
Thanks for the response and manual for VIA. However, I still can't seem to make it work. I'll just wait for automatic recognition, it is not a very important point for me. Concerning the layout, I meant 75 % TKL, sorry. :)

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the review.

The keyboard supports VIA as advertised. You need to connect the keyboard by USB cable (so wireless won't work) and use a chrome-based browser (e.g. Edge also works).

In VIA in the Settings Tab, enable the Design Tab and then in the Design Tab load the JSON file for the Evo80. You can find that directly on the QwertyKeys Website

https://www.qwertykeys.com/pages/fw

Once the JSON File is loaded in VIA you should be able to configure the board properly. I hope that in the future the board will get automatically detected by VIA and these steps are not needed anymore.

You can then also configure your media controls on Fn+Arrow left/right for example, still thats no knob but maybe an easy to replace solution. As the board is a TKL / 80% keyboard, i'm not sure what your third drawback exactly means :o

🌟 "I absolutely adore your product, but I'm unsure how to put it together. Could you assemble it for me?"
"The case design is stunning! However, do I have to purchase switches and keycaps separately? Must I wait months to complete my build?

From day one, our mission at Qwertykeys and Neo Studio has been to lower the barriers to mechanical keyboards and provide an enjoyable typing experience to a wider audience. Over the past two years, we've focused on refining our production efficiency, aiming to lower costs and reduce wait times for our customers. With all our efforts paying off, we believe now is the right time to address the concerns regarding assembly.

This has led to the creation of Evoworks — a new product line co-founded by experts from Qwertykeys and Neo Studio. Our focus with this line is to offer pre-built mechanical keyboards that maintain the same high exterior quality as all our other products and are ready to use out of the box. We are proud to introduce our first flagship product, a work of dedication and excellence — the Evo80.

Side Design

On the side, we crafted a curvilinear contour between the top and bottom cases to ensure a smooth transition. Coupled with a uniquely colored battery compartment for each case color, your Evo80 looks dynamic and delicate from every angle.

Rear Design

Though the rear side of the keyboard is often overlooked during everyday use, we did not neglect it in our design process. We added a decorative groove that starts at the USB port and gradually becomes shallower towards both ends, subtly enhancing the recognisability of the Evo80.

Weight Design

On the back, we moved beyond the plain single-piece rectangle weight. Instead, we split the weight into two sections, using the golden ratio to reflect Evoworks' commitment to legacy and innovation within our brand family. Together with the LED strip on the front, they’ve become the most impressive design signature of the Evo80.

The leaf spring mounting system is one of the proudest structural innovations of our original brand, Owlab. Compared to the commonly used gasket mount, it provides softer support and a bouncier typing feedback. However, due to cost constraints, the leaf spring structure is typically only utilized on high-end mechanical keyboards.
We altered the existing leaf spring structure by shifting the fulcrum from one end to the middle, creating the brand-new butterfly leaf spring structure for the Evo80. Combined with our specially designed gasket, this new mounting structure provides more balanced and stable support for the plate, making the typing feedback across the keyboard more consistent. The gasket also acts as a cushion between the plate and the leaf spring, eliminating most potential hollow sounds. Additionally, we added a silicone dampener between the leaf spring and the bottom case to solve resonance issues. In daily use, the butterfly leaf spring structure provides soft yet solid support for each key press. Making your fingers less likely to fatigue even after a long time of typing.
We’ve retained the highly praised ball-catch mechanism and magnetic connectors from the Neo Studio. You can easily open the case with a press and lift, no tools required. Although the Evo80 is ready to use right out of the box, this easy disassembly structure allows you to modify the internals anytime.
Tri-Mode ANSI PCB Layout

Acoustic Performance

While some may claim that all keyboards sound similar with foam, we hold a different view. The acoustic package for the Evo80 is meticulously custom-designed to align with its specific case structure and internal components. Through enhancements in materials and cutout design, it ensures that the Evo80 brings forth the precise sound profile we have envisioned for you.

Plate + Switch

Keyboard enthusiasts often encounter a delightful dilemma: the vast array of switch and plate choices on offer, which can be daunting for newcomers. To simplify this decision, we've designed two distinctive switch and plate pairings tailored to different sound profiles. Each combination has been thoughtfully engineered, with meticulous attention to the structure and lubrication of the switches to ensure they offer impressive performance right out of the box.

Option 1: Azure Linear Switches + FR4 Plate

The Azure Switch has a crisp and refreshing sound. Paired with an FR4 plate, it provides a clacky and satisfying sound profile.

Option 2: Oat Linear Switches + PP Plate

If you’re looking for a thocky marbly keyboard, opt for the Oat Switches. Paired with the PP plate, they deliver a more rounded and creamy typing sound.

Keycaps

We chose Dye-Sub PBT keycaps to improve the characteristics of the switches and release the powerful sound of the internals, and also developed new molds to address previous internal housing issues, giving the Evo80 a more excellent sound performance and typing experience.
