Neo65 CU - 65% ISO+ANSI Mechanical Aluminium Custom Keyboard Kit

As part of the Neo Cu series, the Neo65 Cu focuses on copper bases and large, curved design lines.

Like previous Neo keyboards, the Neo65 Cu supports both ISO (e.g. ISO-DE) and ANSI layouts and can be configured with a Solder PCB, a Tri-Mode Hot-Swap PCB (Supports Wired, Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connections and comes with batteries) or Wired Hot-Swap PCB. If the Wired Hot-Swap PCB is selected, stainless steel weights are pre-installed in the battery compartments of the housing.

The Neo65 Cu supports both isolated Top-Mount and PCB gasket mount which can be built plateless.

Available with PP, Aluminum or Carbon Fiber plates

All Neo65 Cu Information can also be found on the official QwertyKeys Notion Product Page.

This product is a barebone keyboard kit without Switches and Keycaps, these need to be aquired separately. The oxidation of brass and copper weights is unavoidable due to the characteristics of these materials.

Appearance Design

The Neo65 Cu and Neo60 Cu feature the same bezel proportions and rounded corners as the previous Neo65, with an ultra-slim side bezel that seamlessly complements any desk setup and theme.

In line with the Cu series theme, we've expanded our color palette to include more vibrant options. These include the highly requested Teal color alongside fan favorites from our previous releases. The combination of the vivid top case with the copper bottom creates a striking, dynamic aesthetic.

We've also introduced a more layered waistline design that harmonizes beautifully with the copper bottom to enhance the design language of the Cu series. The curved bottom case softens the visual weight of the copper, creating a sleeker and more slender front profile.

The Neo65 & 60 Cu Cu's design focuses on the copper bottom while making several improvements over the Neo75 Cu. Instead of an aluminum battery compartment, we've added a large, mirror-finished PVD stainless steel weight. This weight is more than decorative—its extensive surface area and higher density better suppress vibrations, resulting in more consistent typing sounds. At the center, we've incorporated a compass-inspired logo that echoes the Core series Neo65 logo while highlighting Neo brand's iconic symbolism. Despite their substantial weight compared to standard keyboards, the Neo65 Cu and Neo60 Cu remain refinded and elegant thanks to all these design elements.

Structure

Chamber Isolation in Bottom Case

To minimize hollowness, we've designed a sophisticated acoustic chamber for both Neo65 Cu and Neo60 Cu. The bottom case features strategic cutouts that maximize filling between the PCB and bottom case while maintaining sufficient space for typing movement. This design, combined with the material properties of the bottom case, significantly reduces hollow sound without requiring foam fillers.

Internal Locking Structure

We addressed metal contact vibrations between the top and bottom cases by adopting an internal locking structure. While ball-catch mechanisms are convenient, they create unavoidable metal-to-metal contact that causes inconsistent typing sounds around the latches without foam dampening. Therefore, we've implemented internal locking screws to attach the top and bottom cases. With additional buffering around the screw holes, the noise from direct metal contact is nearly eliminated.

Key factors that influence keyboard hollowness include airflow, sealing, space, and material properties. For the Neo65 & 60 Cu, we've made specific structural improvements to enhance sound performance:

- Material Properties: Using dense materials like copper for the bottom case and stainless steel for the large weight.
- Space:
A chamber isolation system in the bottom case efficiently fills the spaces beneath the PCB
-Sealing: Non-direct metal contact through internal locking structure.

These design choices significantly reduce hollowness and case ping, allowing users to experience the keyboard's true sound signature.

Dual-Mounting System

The Neo65 & 60 Cu supports both PCB gasket mount (carried over from the Neo65) and isolated top mount. In previous designs, our ball-catch structure prevented top mount implementation since the plate/PCB screw holes would conflict with ball-catch components. The Neo65 & 60 Cu's new structure eliminates this limitation, making top mount possible this time.

Our isolated top mount design incorporates thick silicone gaskets around the mounting screws. This approach maintains the tactile feedback of a traditional top mount while reducing vibration and eliminating direct metal contact.

Although the Neo65 Cu and Neo60 Cu share the same structure, their mounting points are specially tailored through multiple rounds of prototyping to better suit their respective layouts. This ensures consistent keypresses across all areas, including the edge keys, for a balanced and uniform typing experience.
