📄 Product Description
QK80 Mk2 Prebuilt — premium custom-built without the build
The QK80 Mk2 is Qwertykeys' newest 80% TKL — and with the prebuilt version, you get the complete QK80 Mk2 experience without the classic custom build process. The result of more than a year of development: a case completely made from CNC aluminum that combines hardcore engineering with interactive highlights — from the integrated TFT display to the dot-matrix LED and the hidden magnetic compartment for your 2.4 GHz receiver. Factory-tuned with OAT switches, PBT dye-sub keycaps, and refined sound tuning — unbox, turn on, type.

Layout and color variants
We offer the QK80 Mk2 Prebuilt in the following configurations:
- DE-ISO layout in Anodized Grey — perfect for German/European workflows with all umlauts and ß
- ANSI layout in Anodized Grey — the classic US standard for programmers and ANSI fans
- ANSI layout in Spray-coated Pink — the bold, playful color variant for setup enthusiasts
Integrated TFT display with three themes & custom animations
The absolute highlight of the QK80 Mk2 is the integrated TFT display — embedded in the function area without sacrificing important keys. Qwertykeys reorganized the function area, keeping only the most-used keys to make room for the display. Three pre-installed themes let you adapt the keyboard to your mood and your keycaps:
- Default theme: Classic display with connection status, battery level, and time
- Meow theme: A cat mimics your keystrokes live, a hamster runs in a wheel — faster the quicker you type. A playful feedback element that makes every typing session entertaining.
- Code theme: Code-style display with keyboard information — perfect for developer setups
Additionally, you can load completely custom animations and GIFs onto the display — directly in the VIA web configurator. The dot-matrix LED can also be freely programmed and filled with custom patterns. Another treat: the integrated "Flappy Bird" mini-game, which you control with the spacebar — perfect for a quick break in your workflow.
Direct control via the display
Unlike previous QK models, where everything had to be configured on the computer, the QK80 Mk2's display offers direct interaction via the keyboard. Through the display and integrated buttons, you can adjust settings like date, time, RGB modes, sleep timer, lighting effects, and more directly — without needing to connect the keyboard to a PC.
Leaf spring mount — new in the QK series
Instead of the classic gasket mount, the QK80 Mk2 uses the highly praised leaf spring mount from Owlab for the first time in the QK series. Qwertykeys carefully designed the position of the leaf springs and the acoustic chamber in the bottom case to optimize both acoustic performance and typing feedback consistency.
Important to know: on the QK80 Mk2, the leaf spring stiffness has been intentionally increased to deliver more consistent typing feedback. The typing feel is therefore somewhat less soft than on other Owlab keyboards with the same mounting structure (e.g., Vento or Jelly Evolv). The result: precise, controlled bottom-out with a clearly defined character — no wobbly custom-build sound, but a thoughtful balance of bounce and stability.
Ball-catch — tool-free disassembly
For the first time in the QK series, the QK80 Mk2 also comes with a ball-catch quick release. With a simple press and lift, you open the case — completely tool-free. The internal connections — PCB, daughterboard, and display module — are all linked via magnetic connectors. Even though the prebuilt version is factory-tuned and requires no adjustments, modding, switch swaps, and individual tuning experiments are as uncomplicated as rarely before.
OAT switches — factory pre-installed
The prebuilt version comes with OAT switches — linear switches designed for a light, soft typing feel:
- Actuation force: 36g
- Actuation travel: 2 mm
- Bottom-out force: 45g
- Bottom-out travel: 3.6 mm
- Lifespan: 50 million keystrokes
The combination of light actuation and gentle rebound makes the OAT switches especially fatigue-free during long writing sessions. If the switch profile doesn't suit you, the hot-swap PCB lets you switch to other MX-style switches anytime — without soldering.
PBT dye-sub keycaps
Pre-installed are high-quality PBT dye-sub keycaps — wear-resistant, with clear legends permanently anchored in the material. The typical, slightly dry PBT feel resists shine effects (the oily gloss that develops on ABS keycaps after prolonged use) and delivers a clean, professional typing feel even after years. The package additionally includes 4 Mac modifier keycaps.
Gasket multi-layer foam kit for clean acoustics
Inside works a thoughtfully designed multi-layer foam kit specifically tuned for the leaf spring construction:
- Noticeably reduces hollow sound
- Minimizes unwanted noise from hard bottom-outs
- Delivers a clear, clean sound profile with consistent keystrokes
Additionally, the battery compartment has been separated from the bottom case to preserve the integrity of the acoustic chamber — a detail that significantly refines the QK80 Mk2's sound profile.
Tri-mode connectivity with 8000 mAh battery
The QK80 Mk2 connects three ways:
- USB-C wired — direct, low-latency connection
- 2.4 GHz wireless via receiver — wire-free with minimal latency
- Bluetooth — flexible for multi-device setups
Inside work two 4000 mAh batteries (8000 mAh total capacity) — significantly more than the market standard for wireless custom keyboards. Charging is via USB-C, and the keyboard is fully usable while charging.
Important: for the display and dot-matrix LED to function, the battery toggle under the caps lock key must be activated — even if you use the keyboard wired. Display and LED run on battery power.
Hidden magnetic storage for the 2.4 GHz dongle
A practical detail: the 2.4 GHz USB receiver has its dedicated spot in a hidden magnetic compartment under the right badge. So the dongle won't get lost during travel or setup changes — and the side badge simultaneously serves as a decorative element. The badge is magnetically attached and compatible with badges from earlier QK models (QK65v2, QK75N) — you can continue using your favorite badges.
VIA web configurator for display & key mapping
The QK80 Mk2 uses a customized VIA web configurator from Qwertykeys that goes beyond standard VIA. With it you can:
- Remap any key
- Record macros and assign them to keys
- Set up layers
- Customize display animations, GIFs, and themes
- Program dot-matrix LED patterns
All directly in the browser — no driver installation, no additional software setup. Standard VIA isn't used because it doesn't support the advanced display functions.
Premium craftsmanship & design details
- Completely CNC aluminum — no plastic in the visible area
- 3-layer side profile with contrasting colors between top case and battery compartment
- 2nd generation design language of the Qwertykeys family
- 7° typing angle, 19 mm front height — ergonomically thought through
- Carrying case included for travel and transport
Who is the QK80 Mk2 Prebuilt for?
- Custom keyboard enthusiasts who want a premium TKL without the classic build effort
- Setup enthusiasts looking for a statement piece with interactive display and dot-matrix LED
- Heavy typists & coders who need an 80% layout with full function row and arrow keys
