Smurve80 — a smile in keyboard form

The name Smurve is a fusion of Smile + Curve — and that's exactly what you feel from the first keystroke. The Smurve80 is the first mass-produced mechanical keyboard with a true, continuous curved case, manufactured from a specially developed, injection-molded ABS case. The curve isn't just a design element — it's the heart of the typing feel. The gentle bend follows the natural posture of your hands, delivering a familiar, relaxed, and ergonomic typing experience that you simply can't achieve with classic flat keyboards.

Retro inspiration meets modern technology

The Smurve80 is a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic IBM Model M curve — but optimized for modern MX switches, contemporary layouts, and wireless use. It's not a copy but a deliberate evolution for enthusiasts who love classic forms and expect modern features:

  • Curved body: from a specially developed ABS case with a true, continuous curve
  • Curved aluminum plate: precisely matches the case shape and delivers the acoustic and mechanical stability you expect from premium builds
  • Complete foam set: for controlled sound without hollow ring
  • Gasket mounting: cushioned, "bouncy" typing feel with clearly defined acoustics

Solenoid: Typewriter 2.0

The absolute highlight of the Smurve80 is the integrated solenoid module — an electromechanical element that gives every keystroke a characteristic, rhythmic typewriter kick. The result is a typing feel that goes far beyond what classic mechanical keyboards offer — an acoustic and haptic experience reminiscent of the old IBM Model M days, without needing buckling-spring switches.

The solenoid can be controlled via software — you can adjust the intensity and behavior to your preferences or disable it completely if needed.

Tri-mode connectivity with large battery

The Smurve80 connects three ways:

  • USB-C wired — direct, low-latency connection at 1000 Hz polling rate
  • 2.4 GHz wireless via receiver — 1000 Hz polling rate, wire-free with minimal latency
  • Bluetooth — flexible for multi-device setups, 125 Hz polling rate

Inside works an 8000 mAh battery — significantly more than the market standard for wireless keyboards. Battery life is 23–40 hours with active RGB and an impressive 260–320 hours without lighting.

South-facing RGB & hot-swap

For lighting, the Smurve80 uses south-facing RGB — the LEDs are oriented on the underside of the PCB, avoiding conflicts with Cherry-profile keycaps (classic north-facing can cause interference with some keycap sets). The hot-swap PCB additionally allows solder-free switch swaps if you want to adjust the factory configuration.

Build variants — from DIY kit to fully assembled

The Smurve80 comes in multiple configurations, so you can choose the right version depending on your taste for self-building:

  • Fully assembled with Cherry MX Honey — ready to use, with the characteristic Cherry MX Honey linear switches and Cherry-profile PBT double-shot keycaps. Unbox, turn on, type.
  • Fully assembled with Cherry MX Silent Red — same complete configuration, but with the noise-reduced Cherry MX Silent Red switches for quiet office and home environments.
  • Pre-built (ANSI) — keyboard fully assembled but without switches and keycaps. You choose your own switches (MX-compatible) and keycaps.
  • Pre-built (ANSI with split left shift) — same pre-built configuration, but with the split left shift variant for more layout flexibility.
  • DIY barebone — completely unassembled components, perfect for everyone who wants to experience the build process from scratch.

Important: spacebar choice at purchase

Due to PCB routing constraints from the curved case, the layouts with 6.25U and 7U spacebars require different PCB versions — and are not interchangeable. You need to decide between the two spacebar variants when ordering:

  • 6.25U spacebar — the classic standard spacebar, compatible with most keycap sets
  • 7U spacebar — the longer variant, popular in classic TKL/modern builds and some retro-oriented keycap sets

Two color variants

We offer the Smurve80 in two color variants, both pairing well with different setup styles:

  • Graphite — dark, professional grey-black with modern character
  • Sandstone — warm, sand-colored tone with retro-inspired charm

Note on craftsmanship & warranty

The case is made from ABS plastic and uses a snap-together connection with plastic clips. Special caution is required when opening and closing the case — the clips can break easily under rough handling, so the case may no longer close properly.

With the fully assembled variant, the keyboard is intended for use in its delivered state — opening or disassembling voids the warranty. With the pre-built and DIY versions, on the other hand, opening is explicitly part of the concept and does not automatically void the warranty. All variants come with a 1-year warranty.

  • Wireless workflows needing a flexible tri-mode setup with long battery life
