Keyboard case: enclosures for your build

The case determines weight, look, feel and part of the sound of your keyboard. A standalone keyboard case is the base when you choose PCB, plate and switches yourself. Currently these are 60% cases from KBDFans and Nuxros.

Material and weight

Aluminium is the standard material for CNC cases, acrylic and polycarbonate are lighter and transparent. An acrylic case weighs much less than an aluminium case, for the Tofu60 Redux about 0.4 kg against 0.8 kg according to the product text. Polycarbonate sounds more muted but is more prone to scratches. More on materials and finishes is in the guide gasket mount and sound.

Mounting and PCB compatibility

The mounting decides how the board feels. The Nexus from Nuxros uses PCBSnap, alternatively tray mount, and takes PCBs with the USB-C port at the top left, including our MK60MX. The Tofu60 Redux is a GH60 tray-mount case with a compatibility list. Always check before buying whether your PCB supports the layout and port position. With anodised aluminium, the colour can differ slightly between top and bottom case or between batches, which is down to the process.

What comes with the case

Whether a plate is included is stated in the product text: the Nexus comes with an FR4 plate. PCB, switches, keycaps and stabilizers are separate. Matching keyboard PCBs and keyboard plates are in the neighbouring categories. In-stock items ship from Germany within one working day.
