Ergonomic mechanical keyboards: Alice and ergo
An ergonomic mechanical keyboard puts your hands and wrists in a more natural position. In this category you'll find boards in the Alice layout and other ergo models.
What defines the Alice layout
The Alice layout goes back to the TGR Alice. The inner four columns of each hand are separated and angled inward, the rest has a slight offset. Typical are two B keys, one per hand, and a split spacebar. The classic Alice has no arrow keys; the Arisu layout adds them back together with a navigation column.
Other ergo features
- Tenting: The middle is raised and the halves slope outward. The Neo Ergo has 5° of tenting at an 8° typing angle.
- Ortholinear: keys in a grid. That is not automatically more ergonomic – a staggered layout with an angle often helps more.
What to look for when buying
Alice boards in our range have no ISO variant. If you want German characters, you need matching keycaps or set the layout in your operating system. With a keycap set, check for Alice compatibility: two B keys, a split spacebar and, depending on the board, further special sizes. An Alice takes a bit of getting used to, because your hands sit differently and the keys in the middle are arranged differently. If you plan long typing sessions, the switch often pays off. Finished board or kit: in-stock items ship from Germany within one working day.
