UK keycaps for the British ISO layout
UK keycaps are made for the British ISO layout. It shares its key shapes with the German ISO layout, but the legends are English with a few characters of their own.
What is different about the UK layout
- Enter: tall, spanning two rows, as usual for ISO.
- £ key: the pound sign sits on the 3.
- @ and double quote: swapped compared with the US layout.
- Hash and tilde: on the key next to Enter.
- Backslash: on the extra key next to the left Shift.
UK, US or German?
A US set on an ISO board gives you the right key shapes but the wrong characters on the keys. UK sets solve that for everyone who uses the British layout. You need an ISO board for this – the UK keys do not fit ANSI boards.
Which sets are available?
This category holds sets with UK legends, among others from SWG, MW and KKB. What exactly is in the kit is listed on the product page. Many makers offer the UK kit as a separate add-on next to the US base kit.
Tips for choosing
Pay attention to profile and material, because they decide how typing feels and sounds. The guide PBT vs. ABS helps with the comparison, the guide Keycap profiles with the profile question. If you need German keys, you'll find them under keycaps with German layout. Users in Germany pick the UK layout too, for example for an English operating system on an ISO board. The key shapes then fit your board and the legends match the layout you have set. In-stock sets ship from Germany within one working day.
