ANSI keyboards with US layout

An ANSI keyboard has the American key shapes: a horizontal Enter key, a long left Shift and Alt instead of AltGr on the right. ANSI is the most common standard for custom boards, so the choice of keycaps is correspondingly large.

Who is the US layout for?

For anyone who is used to the US layout, programs a lot or wants the widest choice of keycap sets. Many custom sets come first or only in ANSI. The trade-off is that Ä, Ö, Ü and ß are missing from the keys. In practice you usually set the German layout in the operating system for them, while the legends stay US.

ANSI or ISO?

The ISO-DE layout has a tall Enter key, an extra key next to the left Shift and AltGr. If German legends matter to you, take a look at the keyboards with German layout (ISO-DE). Build and keycaps

Finished boards and kits differ in size, case and features. The guide Keyboard sizes and layouts shows which keys are missing at which size. Matching sets are under ANSI keycaps. Compact boards such as 60% or 65% often use multilayout PCBs that support ISO and ANSI on one PCB. The layout then depends on the plate, stabilizers and keycaps you choose.
