KAP keycaps: double-shot PBT in Cherry profile

KAP sets are double-shot keycaps in Cherry profile, mostly in PBT. With this brand the combination of thick walls and a smooth surface stands out.

Material, wall thickness and surface

The double-shot PBT sets such as KAP Grey Alert, Ghost, Disconnected Dark or T.O.T have a wall thickness of around 1.7 mm. Thicker walls are said to give a deeper, fuller sound, which is a manufacturer claim and not measured. The surface is finely textured and feels smooth. Because it is smoother from the start, KAP PBT develops shine faster than PBT with a coarser texture. With double-shot the legends are not affected by this.

ABS and PBT combined

KAP Generation and KAP Capo Soda combine both plastics: ABS for the transparent outer layer, PBT inside. More about the materials is in the guide PBT vs ABS.

Legends and kits

KAP has its own, more modern legends. That is why a KAP set looks different from sets of other brands even with the same profile and process. The sets are modular, for example KAP Grey Alert with Base Kit, German Base Kit (ISO-DE/ANSI-DE), Numpad Kit, Mac Kit and 40s Kit. Depending on the set there is ANSI, ISO-DE, Nordic and ISO-FR. All sets with German keys are in keycaps with German layout.
