PBTfans X-Ray R3 is a tribute to the translucent tech era of the late '90s and early 2000s — back when Game Boys, computer mice, and consoles proudly displayed their internal workings. Designed by Matthew Encina (Mod Musings, Los Angeles), the set blends nostalgia with a modern minimalist design sensibility.
Clear, semi-translucent caps with subtle white legends (WS1) create an uncompromisingly pure look. From certain angles the caps almost appear blank — but as soon as direct light hits them, the legends cast shadows that reveal their depth. A subtle play with perception that turns your keyboard into a visual statement.
Manufactured using double-shot injection molding from ABS — the legends are part of the cap and permanently abrasion-resistant. ABS delivers the signature crisp, bright sound character that complements the translucent aesthetic. Shipped in a designed ABS tray with a thematic cover.
Important notes: The caps are semi-translucent — color tones can vary significantly depending on lighting and viewing angle. As a manufacturing constraint of the double-shot process, small visible holes may appear in the inner layer — these are minimized using Tamiya acrylic paint and are not defects but material-specific characteristics.
