The Sensy Supernova is a 60% custom from SENSY's Legacy series – built on the SonoShell architecture: a dampened top mount combined with a PEI middle frame forming an independent acoustic chamber between the top and bottom case.

The result: the distinctive PEI acoustic inside an aluminium case. Add a 17.5 mm front height, a choice of MX PCB (solder/hot-swap, VIAL) or a Topre-compatible EC PCB, 4 mm plates in PC, ABS, PEI or PEEK – and a weight in heat-coloured patina brass or PVD stainless steel.

Barebone kit – switches, keycaps and stabilisers sold separately.

Sensy Supernova – 60% custom with SonoShell architecture

The Supernova is the second entry in SENSY's Legacy series and builds on the SonoShell architecture first introduced with the Smoke65. The name draws from the Latin "Nova" ("new") and nods back to an early stellar-themed board by designers Qin and Lengjing – the Supernova is their fully upgraded take on that concept. The exterior is inspired by the collapse and gravitational waves of a supernova: sharp straight planes meet dramatic, abrupt curved surfaces, translating the shift from rigid order to dynamic distortion into the chassis form.

SonoShell: the acoustic chamber inside

At the heart of the Supernova sits the SonoShell architecture – an independent acoustic chamber formed by the PEI middle frame, top case and plate, tuned specifically for sound and typing feel. The middle frame is the true core of the construction; the 4 mm plate works in tandem with it and provides partial structural support. Unlike previous applications, the middle frame remains fully intact here – no cutouts to accommodate exterior styling. The result is a complete, uninterrupted acoustic chamber: the distinctive, warmer PEI bottom acoustic combined with the substance of an aluminium case.

Dampened top mount

The top mount works with silicone dampeners – three hardness grades are included (70A and 90A silicone plus 98A TPU), so the feedback can be tuned from softer to firmer right at build time.

Slim profile

Despite its three-layer construction, the Supernova pushes the front height down to 17.5 mm – at a 9° typing angle and with a slim 7.9 mm front bezel. The inward-contracted weight and the stepped front profile make the overall silhouette noticeably slimmer and lower.

Weight & badge

Two characters are available for the rear weight: heat-coloured brass with a lively patina, or brushed PVD stainless steel – each precisely colour-matched to the case variant. A swappable badge completes the look; depending on the colourway, options include two-tone finished stainless steel or luminous carbon quartz.

MX or EC PCB

All PCBs are VIAL compatible. The options:

  • Wired MX: as a solder or hot-swap variant for mechanical MX switches.
  • EC (Topre-compatible): for electrostatic capacitive builds – the EC internals fit without any structural modification, plug-and-play.

Note: due to the plate-mount design, magnetic Hall Effect switches are not supported.

EC compatibility note

The EC PCB works exclusively with electrostatic capacitive components (domes, springs, sliders) – mechanical MX switches cannot be used on it, and vice versa. Choose your plate and accessories to match the version you pick.

Plate options

Alongside a 1.5 mm aluminium plate (universal for ANSI and ISO), four 4 mm plates are available: PC, ABS, PEI and PEEK – each as a separate ANSI or ISO variant. The thick plates are an integral part of the SonoShell concept and noticeably shape sound and keystroke.

Important: the 4 mm plates only support 7U spacebars – asymmetrical cutouts in the spacebar area would disturb the sound balance.

Who is the Sensy Supernova for?

The Supernova is for enthusiasts looking for a sound signature beyond the usual all-aluminium fare: the PEI chamber delivers its own, warmer acoustic that can be tuned widely via the middle frame, the 4 mm plate material and three dampener hardnesses. With the Topre-compatible EC option it equally speaks to EC fans who want that cushioned, thocky typing feel in a modern custom case. And if you're after a particularly low-profile 60% – at 17.5 mm front height, this is one of the slimmest boards in its class.
